MYEONG DONG TOPOKKI

Let's take a few steps from K.Street and have a meal at Myeong Dong Topokki. Located just a few steps away (within Asian Avenue) is another Korean food outlet. This outlet is smaller with only five tables for four persons each and one long table.

K.Street is a few steps ahead to the right

The long table can be seated for six people

Myeong Dong Topokki
As the name suggests, we thought Topokki would be the specialty. Though that is partly true, this place offers several Ramyeon, Deopbap and a few delicious sides.

The Ramyeon and Deopbap are all in set meal which comes together with kimchi and kimbap on the side and green tea. Topokki can be ordered A La Carte but it's more valuable to order the set. So here was what we (me and my sister) ordered:

1. Hangul Chicken Ramyun Set
2. Dongdaemun Station Set (Topokki and Mandu)
3. Odeng (Fish Cake)

Hangul Chicken Ramyun was really savoury. Hangul Chicken is I supposed is breaded chicken. The breaded chicken is really tasty. Even when the chicken is soaked with Ramyun's soup you can still taste the spice on crispiness of the breaded chicken. The bowl is big and the content is almost as full as the bowl size. Kimbap is quite big and packed. From what I can see it has carrots, sweet radish, cabbage, sausage bit and crabstick.

Om Nom Nom
Topokki is as delicious as well. The taste of the sauce in the dish is really tasteful. Mandu is cooked perfectly with plenty of ingredients inside. Delicious. Odeng is really tasteful too. Though it's only two sticks, one Odeng is already making your mouthful which to show it is a large portion.

Yumm!
So again I recommend foodies who like Korean food to try this place. The total for two of us is as below.

Less than RM40
Two set meals and one ala-carte brings us to total of below RM40. I would say it is really worth the price as I guarantee you will leave the place with your stomach really full.

Additional note: Looking at the menu some of the meal sets are based on Subway stations' name. My guess is that this shop is originally opened at Myeong Dong subway station in Korea. There is also a map of the subway routes displayed at the shop.

So I hope you will enjoy the dishes here when dining in here. Until next meal, Annyeong-Higyeseyo~

K.STREET (KOREAN STREET FOOD)

Annyeong-Haseyo~

From Japanese cuisine we move to Korean dishes this time. As mentioned in the last post, I have been craving eastern dishes. As currently I'm hooked on Korean variety show Running Man, I've been looking for places to eat Korean food. Street food is said to be the best way to get that delicious Korean taste. We (my sister and I) found a food outlet situated at Asian Avenue in Sunway Pyramid. The name, K.Street (The Best Korean Street Food in Town).

At Asian Avenue, Sunway Pyramid

It's situated along the "street" where lots of food stalls are. It is beside Takoyaki stall and towards the end near the IT area. Setting of the place does look like you're dining in a street cafe/restaurant. Space wise is not that wide but able to accommodate about 20 patrons at a time. Not much decoration but enough to make you feel as if you in a cafe in Korea. Let's move on to the menu.

Variety dishes

As you can see, the menu has a variety of Korean meals. I'm not all that familiar with Korean food but when people talk about it the most common food mentioned are the likes of Ramyeon, Toppokki, Bibimbap and definitely Kimchi. Of course all these are available in the menu.

I had the Street Ramyeon which also comes with BBQ Chicken Stick. My sister had the Rapokki Bulgogi. Basically Rapokki is Ramyeon and Toppoki combined. Drinks on the back menu and it is mostly Korean healthy can drinks (though choices are little).

BBQ Chicken Stick
Rapokki Bulgogi BBQ Beef

Rapokki is very flavourful. The bbq sauce is creamy and thick. It is sweet rather than spicy. Topokki (rice cake) is very thick. The beef is shredded nicely and the noodles are cooked well. The chicken stick has a similar taste. Rich and thick creamy BBQ sauce and the chicken on the skewer is tender.

Street Ramyeon

The ramyeon is full of flavour. The soup is not at all bland. You can taste every bit of spices in it. It is not that spicy which is suitable for my taste. The portion of the ramyeon is equivelant to one a half to two Maggi packets. Garnished with seaweed generously.

The sides. Soup and Kimchi
Drinks. 2 Percent Peach Tea. Pear Juice

Prices for these are pretty reasonable. RM50 (including GST) so it's about RM25 per person. There's a 5% service charge though.

Cough cough GST

In conclusion K.Street is recommended for those who loves Korean street food. I would definitely return to try other dishes on the menu. Until next meal, Annyeong-Higyeseyo~

MARUGAME UDON

Konichiwa~

Recently I've been having lots of eastern dishes. Well to be honest only Japanese and Korean cuisines. My sister wanted to try this recently open food outlet (how recent I don't know). The name is Marugame Udon situated in Setia City Mall.

As the name suggests, this outlet serves Udon as the main dishes with some Tempura selections on the side (a few rice dishes too). Like I said I'm an amateur blogger therefore I've forgotten to take pictures of the menu clearly. As per the photo below you can roughly see the menu hanging underneath the shop's name.

School canteen like ordering. Choose your meal, receive your meal and pay at counter.

This shop only serves eight (8) types Udon dishes, eight (8) types of Tempura menu and four (4) rice dishes. Though the menu seem small, the portion of each meal is quite large (for average person). I had the Niku Udon which is Udon in broth with shredded beef on top. My sister had the Kake Udon which is the same except without the shredded beef. It's the simple Udon in broth. I'm not sure what broth it was used (most likely chicken broth).

Ittadakimassu! Niku Udon, Beef Croquette, Ocha (cold)

As you can see the they are generous in their serving. The broth is almost a bowl full. The udon is thick. A few strings is already a mouthful. The broth is very flavorful. The shredded beef portion is quite a lot. Beef croquette is big. The filling is very tasteful and packed. Ocha (hot or cold) is refillable I think as they will give you a glass and you just fill the drink on your own at the dispenser.

The setting and decoration of the food outlet has a very nice local Japanese feeling. From the wooden tables and benches to the wooden signboards, traditional Japanese decorations, picture frames on the walls, it gives you a very nice ambiance like you are having a nice meal in small local restaurant in a village in Japan.

That's Mount Fuji I think

Instead of showing picture of busy cities, the pictures are of streets, culture, small villages. Peaceful.

Prices of food and beverages are pretty reasonable if not cheap (considering the portion). Our meals cost us almost RM40 (including GST) but it could be lower if we didn't take any Tempura.

Ahem. GST. Ahem.

For those who are very particular of halal food, fret not. Though I was not aware of the halal sign, many of the staff here are Malay even the cook. The chef or manager is Chinese (I think). In conclusion, this place is perfect for you to have a quick, simple but stomach satisfying meal. It is located on the UG level opposite Bar.B.Q Plaza restaurant. I recommend anyone who loves Udon meals to visit this delicious Japanese cuisine outlet. This recommendation comes from me who doesn't really like Udon. Yeah. Hehe.

Nice and soothing setting

That's all for now. Until next meal. Sayonara~ :)
